Hello to anyone and everyone,

I am having an issue when running a program called scanwizard5.exe [which is software from Microtek for their scanners] which starts “wowexec.exe” {made for 16Bit Apps}, after closing the scanwizard5.exe “wowexec.exe” stays running in the process list, when I try to open the scanwizard program again the program doesn’t open until I Kill the process “wowexec.exe”.

I tried to right click on the properties on wowexec and wanted to change the compatibility properties but it is grayed out noting that this cannot be changed because it is an executable that is part of Windows.

If anyone has every had an issue like this or any advise, info please notify me.

Your help is very much appreciated.

Thanks
JoelB

Wowexec.exe is not run by default (although you can plate it in your Start menu) and when run once leaves one instance behind. This is by design.

You can modify the behavior, and you could adjust the .bat or .cmd file that starts your program to use resource kit tools to kill the wowexec.exe on program exit.

See, for a discussion:
