Hey all, Gotta problem and if anyone could help i'd really appreciate it. I have windows 98 and I get sound but no video with quicktime 5. It worked before, but the sound was all choppy so I removed it and reinstalled it. The sound is great now, but no picture in streaming or downloaded formats. Tried restarting and playing, but same results. Anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks for reading...Kevin

Hello,
I too am having the same problem. The background of the video window shows whatever is behind the application. I too only get sound. Did you ever figure this one out?
If so, could you please let me know?

Thanks much!

Yes. The problem lies with the type of video card you (and I) are running. I higher end video card with more memory should do the trick.

But, for a work around solution:

1. Click on the "Start" bar located in the lower left of your screen.

2. Next browse up to "Settings"

3. Choose "Control Panel"

4. Double click on the "Quicktime" control panel, and then make sure you have selected "Video Settings" in the top menu bar. From there, uncheck "Enable Direct Draw Acceleration"

This should take care of the problem for you. You could also do a find on your computer for "DX Diag" (this is Microsofts Direct X software) and select the display tab. From there, choose to "diable" the "Direct Draw Acceleration". This also will do the trick. I find it better to disable the option in Quicktime since it is the only program I'm having trouble with.

I hope this helps you.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

If you RIGHT-CLICK in the Quicktime viewing area, I think you'll find you'll be able to see your video. It's ANNOYING AS FUDGE and you'll probably have to "move" back to the beginning, but it works fine for my machine after that adjustment. I tried unchecking DirectDraw, it didn't help.

I do not know if this is a help but a friend of mine had this problem when trying to play QT clips that I made on a mac. It was that I had compressed the footage by using Sorenson3 which it appears would not work under QT5 early edition. Perhaps you can download the newest version fix of QT5 or get a Sorenson compression insted of Sorenson3.
