Has anybody managed to successfully share a BT Broadband internet connection in the UK?
It seems they state it is designed for a single computer to connect to the internet. If ICS is used, only a single computer is being connected to the internet. I have been reading about using ICS & broadband internet connections, but I was wondering if anybody has tried this, & if so whether they have been successful.

Any suggestions?

You might try a DSL/Cable Modem Router. What they do is make it appear to the network that you have only one IP Address, and then route the requests for access to the individual computers. Linksys makes such a device.

The problem with the cable is that usually you only want to pay for one IP address. On a network each computer has to have a specific address. You can not just give 2 computers the same IP number. If you do, neither one will want to work right. Also if you do that the service provider will see there is a conflict and may deny services to your IP address. The Linksys router has a built in firewall as well. It will probably reflect back any ping requests from the outside. Unfortunately this gear costs anywhere between $80 to $200 in the united states. Other companies like D-Link may also make similar equipment.

I've never actually used one, but I have read about the concept. You would have to use something like this for a year or two before it would pay for itself. While I have never used a cable router, I have a Linksys switch that I purchased to replace my HUB that was damaged by lightning and I have nothing but good things to say about it. sells this Linksys device, and I think they ship to international locations. It listed at $71.00. I bought a Microsoft Optical mouse from them for $20.00 plus shipping and I like it a lot. amazon sells lots of computer stuff and items you would not expect. I know they sell a lot of DVD players also. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.
