I have a workstation running a registered copy of XP pro and I'm going to upgrade the motherboard, processor and RAM on it. Does anybody have any experience in doing this with XP. I've done it countless times w/other OS's but not w/XP.
Any help is appreciated.

Just to give you a heads up, that new motherboard is going to require you reinstall XP. Guarenteed. I have read some articles on and from personal experiance, new motherboard = reinstall of XP. I have tried several times with different motherboards to see if a repair, or restor works. No luck. You will have to format and reinstall. Just another "security" feature built into XP. CPU and RAM will be fine, if it means anything :) Jason Wichman

Wow, that is bunk... my system crashed/burnt (mobo & CPU) and i simply replaced the mobo, CPU and new SDRAM. in the old case installed me old HD's and booted... yes the mobo did a little work. but it was i piece of CAKE... and the restore Works also on my XP. i do not use REPAIR i simply use the UPGRADE for XP. No problems that way.. Frank Smith

Gotta agree with Frank, I had a mobo die on a dual boot 98 / xp system. New board, different chipset, xp had no problems at all. I had a few dramas on the 98 side, had to remove and reinstall all hardware including system devices from device manager but xp just detected and installed everything without a hitch and the system has been stable ever since. All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.
