Hard drive issues SCSI vs IDE

We have a computer that has SCSI as C: drive and a Promise card with a 20gig IDE drive at work. When the user is trying to upload data from the IDE drive, it hangs while trying to copy the files to the server. However, when he copies those same files to his ScSI drive and then uploads. Boom it's done! There is no problem in transferring data between the SCSI and the IDE but the IDE has problems going to the server where the SCSI doesn't.

Anyone have any clues as to why this is working this way?

Check the PIO mode on the drive card, see if it matches the drive. It's also possible that the Promise card is either conflicting or is going bad, a bad cable, or even a bad IDE drive.

Another possibility - turn off DMA transfers for that drive in the Hardware manager and reboot, then try again. If it doesn't hang you've got your solution - some drives don't support DMA mode (some controllers don't either).

Last resort: Junk that IDE drive and stick with the SCSI

unless the 20Gig is an ATA/100 you really do not need a Promise controler (unless of course your bios cant support ATA/33 and ATA/66) , also DMA increases the speed if turned on (And if supported) (which is funny because, if your SCSI is the typical 40 or ultrawide 80, anything other than the Ultra160 , it's supposibly slower than an IDE ATA/100) Karl Blessing aka kb244{fastHACK}

What is weird is that he can copy files just fine from the IDE the SCSI drive with no problems. Just when trying to copy from the IDE to the server, there are problems.
