I have a second Maxtor 120 gb drive d: in a XP Pro system which stopped working. I get messages saying it may not be formatted and CRC errors. Any ideas?
Download the Maxtor diagnostic software from their website and do all three of the non-destructive tests. Make sure you read closely the web knowledge base documentation for the test routines. Search their knowledge base as well for error codes and RMA requirements.
If the communication/connection test passes but the drive fails any of the next two tests with an error code, write it down and fill out the on-line RMA form. Return the drive.
