Had a hard drive crash.. FAT errrors, clicking sound, then finally death. Installed a new drive in the computer, which worked fine for about a day. Suddenly the message "error writing to drive C" appeared. Restarted the computer and tried to run Norton, but got fatal execpetion error on Norton and basically every Windows program I tried to run (Kernel32). Ran NAV from CD and then NDD, but had so many errors I did not finish diagnostics. Once again this disk produced FAT errors, fdisk /mbr failed and the clicking began. This is the second drive to crash so obviously I have a different problem with the computer. I have noticed that there is a noticable change in the fan speed as the computer boots up. It seems to slow down and then speed up.

Any help would be appreciated before I blow another drive!

Time for a new power supply. Cheers,
Jim

Actually, I swaped a known good power supply in the computer and the power still seemed to flucuate.

How many watts is the one you're using?
Is this on an AMD based system?
Is your power supply adequate for the number of devices you have plugged in?
Have you tested the house supply (where you plug everything in to the wall) for consistency, etc.?
Have you tried plugging it all in elsewhere in your house? Cheers,
Jim

This computer is a very basic model, HD, floppy, CD. I have plugged it in other outlets. I also replaced the ribbon cable to the drive. Is there something on the mobo that could be causing the problem?
