AFTER WINDOWS 2000 PROFESSIONAL BOOTS I KEEP HEARING HARD DRIVE ACTIVITY FOR UP TO 30-40 MINUTES!. NO PROGRAM
RUNNING, TASK MANAGER DOES NOT LIST ANY RUNNING PROGRAMS.
ANY THOUGHTS.

Look under the Processes tab of Task Manager...there'll be a long list of processes...and usage of the CPU may give a clue.
Do you have Microsoft Office/Fastfind on the computer?
Sometimes that will cause it....and removal may fix it.
How long since you did scandisk/defrag?
There may also be a virus scan that's run at startup that's causing it...it should show up in the processes.

is your file system NTFS
if it is, try disabling Index services on each drive

Both the indexing service and the system restore feature will activate occasionally and check/scan files. I generally turn off both of these. ________
Remember, you're unique... just like everyone else.
