Hi,
I have a 20GB harddisk, now want to install one more 40GB HDD as a slave to this.
1. How can I find out the maximum capacity that my motherboard can support.
2. I have installed lots of sofwares in the D: drive of my present 20GB HDD, If I install the new HDD as a slave the the present drives will be altered, and I will lose all the present links to the s/w in D: drive and some may not work also. Is there any way to retain the present drives as it is and to append the new drives to these.

Your mobo manual (on manufacturers site normally if you haven't got one) should tell you what max size disk is supported - and/or latest bios release on the manufacturer's site (if there's a release which increases this).

Presume you have existing one partitioned - which is why D:.
If you are running NT/2k/XP, the new drive will be added after all existing drive letters. Also you can reassign drive letters easily (apart from system drive) with these o/s. If you are running 9x/ME, you could create just an extended partition on new drive - in which case drive letters will start from E: on new drive and current D: intact, or if you creatge a primary partition, you can use this software to reassign drive letters so current D: becomes D: again.
