For some strange reason, a Seagate Barracuda IDE drive went sour - it will not auto-detect during bios setup... It just started happening all of a sudden, so I can't get at the data. The contents of the drive are perfectly good, as after letting the drive sit unpowered for about an hour and a half, it did detect and booted up the operating system - but dummy me, I restarted the computer and I haven't gotten it to work since.

Is there any software somewhere I can purchase that might be able to access the drive and backup the data?

i ran into many failed hard drives as a computer tech. i read an article in a magazine saying to put a failed hard drive in a fridge for about an hour or two, then hook it up to the computer again. this is only a mean to recover data when all else fails. it worked for me a couple time. id say the chances of it working are about 30-40%.

hope this helps.
