I have a customer with a MICS 6.1 PRI and Callpilot. He says someone is hacking in and dialing out(to overseas).
How are they doing this? I don't have disa turned on. Does anyone have sugestions on how to stop this, all input appreciated..

It is usually done through the voicemail.

You can also have someone transfer the call out of the office to any destination if there aren't any restrictions set. Which case it could be an unhonest employee.

Lock all Vmail ports down with restrictions for no outgoing calls. Downside, no one can use Off-Premise Message Notification or Outbound Transfer. If that's not a problem, do it, 90% chance all hacking gone.

Adversity is Opportunity

At a minimum make sure if not needed, restrict all sets & lines from 011* & 1010*.

If needed create COS passwords for those users.

Review all VM boxes, delete any unused. Have all users change to a minimum of 6 digit passwords, & complex. Force them to do a 30 day COS change.

Disable external transfer for cell phones or to home.

All VM ports/channel DN's are restricted from 011* & 1010* this would still allow notification.

I would hate to see that bill. If they can't live with this, have them get a great international rate.

There have been many threads about this over the years.

besides all of the above,
- Cancel international service - if genuine callers dont require it
- get password on CO line to call LD/ International
