Guys, have a technical limit on Clipper to inquire about. I know field names cannot be longer than ten characters but how large can they for ordinary variables. I thought the limit was 10, too, and the rest ignored.

Also, does anyone know if this limit was different for Summer '87, 5.00, 5.01 and 5.02.

You are correct. A variable name can be any length, but Clipper only recognizes the first ten characters. To the best of my memory, this applies to Summer '87 thru 5.3.

On the other hand, the preprocessor symbols, created with #define can be longer and more than 10 characters are significant. I don't remember the limit but you can check that out by trying.
