Gunzip resource hog ?

When I run gunzip I see a very high CPU utilisation. One of our old boxes which is highly utilised I suspect crashes when gunzip is run.

Is this normal ? The high CPU utilisation I mean.

you should expect it to take up some resources and time, especially if it is a large item you are attempting to gzip or gunzip.
