I'm studying for the 70-216 exam, have just read up on the use of NWLink and associated services. I dont have any Netware servers, so am limited in what I can look at here.

My question is, when setting up GSNW I see it adds a NWLink NetBIOS driver into the LAN components properties sheet. When the Windows client connects to the GSNW service does it need to use NetBIOS over the NetBEUI protocol or can it connect using TCP/IP to the gateway?

The cours notes I have are not clear on this, I suspect it will work over IP but if this is so I am at a loss to see why it adds the NWLink NetBIOS driver.

One reason it loads the NetBIOS is for reverse compatibility. GSNW is an NT 3.51 technology and is still available with W2K servers.

the other reason is that there are incompatibilities between various Netware and NT/W2K implementations...
