We are on NetWare 6 Groupwise 6 and our ISP hosts for us.

I am currently having now problem with reverse lookup. I always assumed (probably quite wrongly) that I did not have to configure DNS as we were not resolving and hosting ourselves.

Now I am having problems with security on GroupWise and blacklisted as I do not have reverse lookup.

Can anyone confirm I have to configure DNS? If I am not hosting the domain I am using for GroupWise, will it not be wrong to configure my server's DNS with my public main server's IP address?

Thanks for your help.

your isp may host, but who hosts your dns? whoever is in charge of your dns should set up the reverse lookup. If that's you, then get to it. ;) many secure email installations will not accept email from servers with no reverse dns as they are (too often) spammers. It may also be in the RFC but I am not sure...

Thanks very much for your reply. No, I do not hold DNS - this is why I was a bit worried of haviging misconfigured or having missed something. In the meantime I had contacted the broadband provider and they have confirmed they will do it.

Thanks again for your help!

Hello,

I suspect your Groupwise mail server has been black listed because the GWIA configuration permits relaying of messages. This has nothing to do with DNS.

Look at the properties of the GWIA under Access Control and make sure that there is check mark in the "Prevent relaying of messages".

To check the relay setting go to:

Once you are certain messages are not being relayed you should contacts the black list administrators and have your site removed from their list.

Good luck,
