Groupware Calendar Help

I pulled this "selena sol's groupware calendar" utility out of a book and am having some trouble adding users to the system. If anyone has seen this or is using it, I think I just need the format for a user entry in the "calendar.users" file. Should be something like "username|password|type of access|firstname|lastname|email" or something like that. The format I found in the documentation doesn't seem to work. It never finds a corresponding user.

P.S. I am unable to add users through the "register for an account" page. It tells me "cannot append to user file". So I am trying to bypass this by just adding one generic user to the users file.

about the not being able to append.....
...best first guess.....
'sounds like a permissions problem or the app can't find the file. Make sure that the permissions on the file are set appropriately so the web server process is able to modify (write to ) the file.
