I just installed v6.0 and tried to do an "Immediate task"
update but it failed. How can I get this to update the dats/engine ASAP ??

the 2 errors in the log are this:

ID 2053 An Update failed w/ error 80004005:unspecified error

ID 2055 The license for this product has expired

THanks gang !
btw...they dont have 24/7 support at mcafee ?

Hi,

I am having a similar problem, have just upgraded my copy, did you get a fix for this, or discover why it was happening? BTW I'm new to these boards, so hello and thanks for any help.

Cheers,

Sam

i called tech support and there is a reg hack for the license issue.
save this info as a .reg and
run it.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\McAfee GroupShield\SystemState\License\GS6]
"LicenseInfo"="0025B{${4rzU{aczTz83zR{#zJ{aczTz83zR{#zJ{+{Cz<+z>y&z$ioe{?Qy3{cy!y("
"LicenseExpiry"=dword:00000000
"LicenseType"=dword:00000004

Hello,

I had the same 2 problems. The license problem was solved by the Regkey, thanx pctekk !

But I still have the problem that Groupshield 6.0 does not update, and for Spam Killer 2.1 (just installed) goes the same : it give's an unspecified error but doesn't update.

Help would be greatly appreciated !

Thanx,
MaDDo

I had the same problem, but get a different error. It says "Failed to start running task" when I try to run the update. I have a support case logged with mcafee. When I updated my virus scan 7 that runs on that server, it updated the groupshield dats.

There is a help article on the mcafee knowledge base about manually downloading and updating the Spamkiller rules. You download the files, create subfolders. Then, extract the files to the folder (which don't extract to the correct location by default). Then, make some registry changes. You have to login to the mcafee portal with a grant number to get the files. The instructions are in the online knowledge base.

I see this post started a year ago. Dissappointed to find out mcafee still hasn't corrected the problem. :-(

FYI - The root cause of my update failure (80004005:unspecified error) was the proxy settings were wrong.

I am posting this because it is a possible cause that doesn't appear to be recorded anywhere else.
