I receive a truck report everyday that has the following fields.

Dept
order dept
item
upc
item description
case count
event code

What I am trying to do is sum the case count by the item number. It would seem simple in access which I do not have.
Is there a way to do this in excel. Also the reports are daily and different items everyday some the same some new where do I put the new download into new tabs on the work sheet to do this/

Thank You

Create a database with your data on a new sheet.
Then Pivottable to a new sheet should give you the results you need.
Tips:
1.Use a dynamic named range to name the database. That way it will change automatically if the number of rows changes
2.When creating the Pivottable make sure you use the range name rather than the cell address of the range
3. Consider adding a date column to your database and adding each days data to it. You can then have a PageField to select a particular days data. And have the ability to summarise by day, month etc.
4.If you can't get the pivottable to do quite what you want then post back with specific details of what you have managed to do and what you are trying to do.

Gavin

Hi,

"...do I put the new download into new tabs on the work sheet ..."

Put ALL you data into ONE table. Add a column for the DATE of the data set. Putting the data into different sheets will greatly multiply your woes and difficulties in analysing and reporting your data.

Ouch.

/pedantry on

In computing, a database can be defined as a structured collection of records or data that is stored in a computer so that a program can consult it to answer queries. The records retrieved in answer to queries become information that can be used to make decisions. The computer program used to manage and query a database is known as a database management system (DBMS). The properties and design of database systems are included in the study of information science.

A more correct description would be 'create a data source....'
