Hi,

I'm using a GPO to roll out Service Pack 4 and it works fine except that it even installs on PC's that already have SP4 installed. How can I configure the GPO so that MSI's are only installed if they don't already exist?

Thanks

Marc

You don't. The GPO only looks to see if the software installation policy has been applied. If not, it applies it. If so, it leaves it alone.

If you had previously manually installed SP4 on a system, it may already have SP4 installed but the software installation policy still hasn't been applied to that system yet. When the GPO sees this, it applies the policy, kicking off a new install.

Thanks for the reply kmcferrin!

Is there another way to accomplish what I'm trying to do? I want to force people to upgrade to SP4 but not penalize users who already made the transition.

I have also allowed an employee (not an Admin) to add PC's to a separate OU using Netdom, and I want to make sure that any systems he adds to the Domain have SP4 and anti-virus installed.

Thanks

Marc
