Group Dates

I have been asked to create a report that will add values in two different tables then take those values and divide them. This report will need to be grouped by month. The problem is that, for example, I would need to group all the January fields in table1 and table2. Then take the totals from the group and divide them. I am already working in a subreport so I cannot insert a subreport.

I am not sure how to go about solving this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
