Hi, anybody got a clue. (Excel 2003)
Below is my grouped table. On the right is the same table but showing the formulae.
The problem is when the group is expanded as below it works fine. When I remove the expansion so All I can see is A1:B2, the value within B2 is 0!
If I try the same thing in Excel 97 it works fine., ie, it displays 6. Any ideas. Thanks very much. Martin.

A B A B
1 name number name number
2 a 6 a =SUBTOTAL(9,B3:B8)
3 a 1 a
4 a 1 a
5 a 1 a
6 a 1 a
7 a 1 a
8 a 1 a

Hi,

Are you not using the Data/Subtotal FEATURE (as opposed to the SUBTOTAL FUNCTION)-- does what you seem to be doing "automatically"???
