Hi,
I'm on an XP machine on a 2003 domain. The ex sys-admin hacked the registry on this machine so that domain users on this pc are heavily restricted. Our current sys-admin can't remember how it was done and his solution is to re-image the pc but I'm hoping some clever person knows how I might get it back to normal. An example of the problem is I can't change the wallpaper. Local and group policies say I can but it seems to be overriden after these policies are applied. Can anyone help?

Cheers Stephen

I would check to see if User Group Policy Loopback is set using Gpedit.msc.

When you are the IT director, it's your job to make sure the IT works. If it does work they know already and if it doesn't, they don't want to hear your pathetic excuses.

If it's an issue with only that PC, then re-image. It only takes about 15 minutes (usually), and you'll have a brand spankin new system anyway... Why waste the time and effort on running down an issue that can be resolved otherwise?

Hope This Helps,

Good Luck!

Hi guys,
The problem with the re-image is it may take weeks to get done and I am also intrigued.

Re Loopback in GP: it is "Not Configured". Curiously the Event Viewer (which I can only see by logging onto the PC off the domain) records the error "Windows cannot do loopback processing for downlevel or level users". Is this a clue?

Cheers Stephen
