Grey background in .bmp pictures

Microsoft Pub 2002/Windows XP. Both installed at the same time to replace M Pub 2000 and WinNT and that's when the problem began. When I print Publisher files with embedded CDR 9 generated .bmp pictures to Kyocera and Post Script drivers (I've tried 3)for distilling to .pdf files the .bmp box fills in with a 5% black screen. This does not occur when printing to Lemark or HP. This does not occur when printing out of CDR 9 to any printer. The Publisher commercial printing configurations does not resolve the problem. Workaround: service provider is increasing brightness in .pdf files to knock out grey but are complaining about rip time and file size.
