Greek text from word to quark

i have a pc word document translated to greek which opens fine on the pc, but I cannot call the text into quark (also on same pc) or copy and paste into quark without it turning to gobbledegook?
also same word file will not display properly on the mac, or be called into quark on the mac without the same problem as above?

I know translation houses do this easily , but won't say how, other than they use a piece of conversion software. which one?
