Has anyone been able to get Password Policies working through a GPO. I set up a GPO(Default Group Policy) at the Domain Level and for minimum characters for password set to 6. It gets propagated down to the clients and I see it in the Local security policy of the client as effective but when i prompt the user to change their password they can use any number of characters they want and not the 6 that i defined? Any one know whats going on here? I am using gpresult.exe tools and everything seems fine. ANY help greatly appreciated... Jimmy

The setting of six means that the password must contain six characters either a combination of letters, numbers, characters. if you set complexity it needs usually at least one capital and one number or character. Setting it to six does not limit the user to six just sets a minimum.

yes setting it to six should limit the person to put at least six characters nothing less, but they are able to put less than six characters in their password. why is that? i didn't put in complexity requirements yet, because i want to get the number of chacracters running correctly first. i don't know what you were meaning in your thread. thanks
