I am new to group policies and could use a little help. there are a few things that i would like to supress that i can not seem to find. here are the things that i would like to not happen if possible.

1. clear the username field, so that the next user doesn't know who logged on last.

2. when you roll over a desktop icon, it gives a little popup description. if it happens to be a network app, it shows the network path. can you prevent this popup with gpo and how?

3. with windows explorer can you either not have the path show in the explorer bar or remove the explorer bar all together.

thanks to all the can shed some light on these problems for me!

I just know of the first one...

Computer Config/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Security Options/Interactive logon...Do not display last user name ENABLED

Your second question is called baloon tips and can be turned off. It will also affect when you hover over items in the system tray, so you may not like the result.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

thanks for the reply guys!

now users can't see who logged on last...i am still having trouble with the balloon tips. i have that turned on but when a user hovers over an icon on the desktop, it still displays the shortcut properties.

also is there a way to disable the address bar in windows explorer? either remove it completely or restrict using it? thanks.

I don't believe there is a GPO setting for that. Your best bet is to use a program like RegSnap. Take a snapshot of your registry. Then make the change manually and take another snapshot. Then regSnap can do a comparison and let you know what has changed.

If you post the keys and values that changed I can convert that into an ADM template for you for use in a GPO.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
