Got new server, and 8.6 not compatible

We just got a new Win2K3 server. Our 8.6 Backup Exec is not compatible with it. Can only install in Demo mode. Please tell me the exact products that I need.

We got:
Dell Autoloader
Win2K3 server (Backup Exec will be on)
Win2K server (Fax server)
Win2K server (apps)
Win2K server (apps)
WinNT server (lotus, will be eliminated hopefully)
Win2K workstation (access keys)

ver 9.0.4454 and above are supported. I assume you entered the key code when you re-installed (if not then a 30 day eval copy will be installed)

Install Backup Exec 9.1 or 10.x and dont enter any license key. You can select the components/agents you want to try out. This will be good for 60 days. The NT box must be running SP6a

I've read that the 8.6 won't accept licenses on Win2K3.

If I buy version 10, how many Remote Agents are required to backup all 6 of my servers. Or is it not required? I also heard it comes with 1 Remote Agent and thats for the Media Server.

Your correct 8.6 license wont work in 10.
You need 1 Media Server license for the 2k3 server. When you install 10.x it puts a remote agent serive on the media server since 10.x backup are done thru the remote agent service even on the local box. Workstations are included free as far as licensing but you will need to install/push the remote agent software to them. As far as being legit in licensing you will need 3 remote agent license for the 2 app and fax server. Then if you want to protect the domino databases then purchase the Domino Agent which include a remote agent CAL with it. If the Domino server is going away all together then you can purchase 3 remote agent licences. Backup Exec doent know the difference if you backing up 1 or 100 machines remotely. Its just a matter of be legal on paper for licences.

Veritas 8.6 doesn't work on Win2003. But 8.6.1 does.

Its not supported and wont protect 2k3 servers.
I havent heard of 8.6.1? Maybe 9.1
Backup Exec 8.6 only had revision. Event the latest revision of 8.6 dont touch shadow copy components on a 2k3 server
