Well, it may be due to the HIDDEN firewall built into the nForce chipsets...

I came across this as I was searching for a fix to connect my Laptop (XP/VISTA) to my other PC (XP), and spend three weeks (on and off) trying to fix it...

the PC was running through the nForce2 NIC and was networking fine with other XP computers... even with the Laptop under XP... so for the life of me I could not figure out why it would not network with Vista...

until I read this:

A Hidden Personal Firewall - The nVidia nForce Network Adapter

I then switched to the other NIC installed on the mainboard (a 3com) and voila, it runs like a charm now...

SO if you have a nForce board try another NIC or try to turn of the software firewall...

Thanks for highlighting this problem.

Thanks for the star...

When I experienced the problem, I naturally did look here first for a fix, and none worked for me... I began looking deeper into the subject, and found the solution only after digging and putting two and two together...

If it wasn't an obscure problem with the chipsets, I have nForce2 on the main PC and it continues, as far as I can tell, even into the newer nForce chipsets, I probably would not have posted it...

Hope it helps those that face a similar problem and can't figure it out...

PS: Linney I hope you and your family had a good X-Mas...
