We have Veritas Backup Exec 8.6 and we got a failed message under the Job Status for yesterday and i scrolled through the Log and saw there was an error of "The semaphore timeout period has expired" We also noticed that the Elapsed time is about an 1hr to 1 and 1/2 hrs faster meaning it took 2hrs and 45minutes where usually it takes 3hrs and 45minutes to 4 and 1/2 hrs. It got 19,000,000,000 bytes so i know it went through but has anyone recieved that message and know how to fix it so it comes in as completed? Thanks

I should also add that in the error message it states Storeage Device "Ecrix1" reported an error on a request to read data from media if you need any other info please let me know

I had this same message about a month ago. I updated the tape device drivers with the latest Veritas "approved" versions and updated the firmware on the tape drive. These two items fixed the problem.

Before I fixed, my backup would get almost done, then fail with the "semaphore message" during the verification process.
