Hi,

Is anyone familiar with the Google Deskbar? It is a beta tool available from Google labs.

I was wondering if anyone knows how this was created.

I would be interested in creating one for myself but I have never programmed for Windows.

It is a very useful tool but I would just like to try to do the same thing myself as a learning experience.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Marcus

I think you are being a bit too ambitous to go from no programming experience to developing an application such as the Google Deskbar.

If you were wanting to develop something along those lines then you will need to learn a language such as C, C++, Visual Basic or .NET

As for help learning those languages you should pick a small project and attempt that. Then when you are comfortable with the Design Environment you can progress.

Good sources of advice are the forums here and google.

Hi Greg,

I have been programming for a number of years, mainly Java and perl on Unix. The size of the project does not bother me too much. It is just going to be a bit of fun in my spare time.

I was just wondering if anyone could direct me to a good resource which could give me information on which APIs to use etc, and where to find and access them.

I presume I will need a copy of Developer Studio to proceed.

Thanks,
Marcus

I have always found the scarms website to be a good resource for VB help.

should point you in the right direction if you choose VB.

If you want to use a different language then you would be better off asking in the relevant forum for that language.
