Hello,

At the moment I am using DV-PAL to output my movies, but I feel that this is compressing the movie to much. I want a codec that has no compression. I have been told that ANIMATION is the best one for no-compression but this makes the final movie jerky and unwatchable. Is there something that can be downloaded that you could recommend.

Thanking you for your help

Unfortunately, you're asking the impossible. The definition of a codec is a "compression/decompression" (hence the "codec") algorithm. That means if you're using a codec, your video will be compressed. The reason you compress a movie is to prevent it from being jerky and unwatchable. Any digital video that is uncompressed, even in the Animation format which uses lossless compression.

However, there are alternatives to DV-PAL, but it depends on your desired output. If you are outputting to the web, Sorensen is a good option. If you are outputting to VHS video, go with DV-NTSC if you're American, DV-PAL if you're European. Both of the DV formats look terrible on a computer monitor however. MPEG-4 is a beautiful codec if you can get it, but it's not always free. DiVX is a free codec based upon MPEG-4 that works wonderfully and is gaining popularity, but be advised that many people won't have the codec to view it until you make them download it.
