Hello
I have windows server 2000 that we use as DC and file server.
My users are using offline files in case that the server goes down they
can still work.
For some reason their computers goes offline when the server is up,
when it's happen they can't print or use other network services.
it's happen every day without any reason we get a lot of support calls
from users.
we manage to get them online by telling them to sysc or restart their
PC.
before we never had this problem.
Is there away to fix this problem?
Thanks

I'd take a look at your switch or hub. You may have ports going offline temporarily. Is it the same users all the time? Have you checked their patch cords?

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

Where do the clients get their IP addresses from? Are you running DHCP on the DC/Fileserver? If so, then check the ip address of the clients before and after the server comes up.

A+/MCP/MCSE/MCDBA

Also check for speed and duplex mismatches on both server and workstations. For example if your workstations switch ports are forced to 100Mb Full Duplex and the workstations are left at auto negotiate, they will only negotiate to 100Mb Half Duplex and this can cause symptoms that you suggest.

And the server should be forced on both switch and in the 2K3 settings as well
