I have created a delegation for a new child domain. I then created a child domain using dcpromo. I have installed dns in the child domain and have set the domain controller in the child domain as a global catolog server. My problem is there are no global catolog records in the dns server. Now all of the other SRV records exist in the child domain. I have run ldp.exe and it says true for global catolog on my child server. running nslookup -q=srv _gc._tcp.child.domain.net for my child domain comes back saying non-existent domain. I cant figure out what could be the problem. Nothing else seems wrong exept that there is not GC record on the child domain DNS server. any sugesstion would be great

How long have you waited? The records for GCs don't get created in DNS untill the new GC has all the info replicated to it. That can take a while.

I have let this sit over night and the records are still not present. There are records saying this child domain server is a global catolog on my main DC in its parent domain just none on the child domain DC. This is causing problems with exchange install and computer logons.

And you've got DNS zone transfers going on between the parent and child domain?

Well like always the user has left for the day and I have lost my connection to their server. I was able to find event ids 1126 1655 wich both deal with the GC. And to the previous question yes i did have zone transfers between the domains. Theres some kind of DNS problem but I cant figure out what. I looked over DNS several times and could not figure out what could be the problem.

After running some netdiag tests its saying it cant find the domain controller list. I looked into the netlogon.dns file and the GC SRV record is there so why wouldnt it be in my dns zone? All of my searching is leading to dead ends with this problem.
