I was able to use NOTES in Macola through adding "CHECK-FOR-NOTES=YES" in the Macola7.ini file in Winnt folder. I was told that there is another statement that I can add to the Macola7.ini file to enable right for users to modify the notes that were created. Where can I obtain all the statements available through modification of macola7.ini file? Please help provide the statement that can resolve my issue. Thank you.

Benjamin,

"Check-for-notes=Yes" in the Macola7.ini does not give you the abiltiy to use notes, you have always had that ability. This statement in the macola7.ini file turns the note icon into a pushpin if there is a note, and leaves it as a blank paper pad if there is no note.

I am working on a list of these statements with Macola tech support and will post it when I get it. It is worth pointing out that Macola7.ini is a workstation setting, and Macola7.cfg is a global setting. Many of the settings you do on a workstation by workstation basis in Macola7.ini can be set globally in the Macola7.cfg.

Dgillz,
Thanks for explaining how Notes works. I tried to add "Check-for-notes=Yes" in the Macola7.cfg file and it does not change the pushpin icon. Is there any other way around so I don't have to modify workstation by workstation?

Are you sure the item in question does not have a note? If the item has a note it will still look like a pushpin. Also, you have to exit Macola completely on that workstation and come back into ot before macola will re-read the macola7.ini file and have the bahavior I explained.

If you put this line in the Macola7.cfg file - which is in the Macola root directory - it should set this globally. You need to get everyone out of Macola before you do this.

Also, I am advised that the settings for both the macola7.ini and macola7.cfg files are in an appendix of your Macola User Guides. I don't even have a copy of these or I would tell you exactly where. Software Training and Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

The item I opened does not have a note. I am modifying the .cfg file from my Development server so there wasn't any user logged on. Also, logged out and back in and still the push pin is still there. Only when I modified the ini file on the workstation will it change. Below is what my Macola7.cfg file contain. I tried to put the check-for-note=yes everywhere in the notes and it still does not change the pin. Also, I looked in the user guides and they only tell me that the change can be done in the ini file.
