What types of 10 base T cable works with Gigabyte ports

I thought Cat 5-e and Cat6?

The reason I'm asking is we connected our server to a Cisco Gigabyte switch with Cat 5e and the server could get on the internet and ping other devices but no one could log into the server.

If the server can ping other devices attached to the switch then it probably isn't a Cat5e/Cat6 cabling issue.....

The connection is actually a GigaBIT connection not GigaBYTE....

1000BaseT uses 4 pairs of cable so can utilise existing Cat5/Cat6 cabling. Generally Gigabit capable NIC's that provide a UTP connection operate at 10/100/1000 speeds but this obviously depends on the switch it is attached to and the cabling.
If you attached your server to a 1000BaseT port on a switch and your cabling is Cat5 or Cat6 it is probable it has connected at 1000Mbps. The fact your server can ping other devices means the comms is working and the problem is likely down to your server.

Try one of the Server OS forums.... Is it a Windows 2003 Server?
