I have tried to export gifs with an alpha channel from fireworks and they look terrible. When I export jpegs with a background that matches dreamweaver the colour looks bad too.  The same happens when I export an image with a low transparency background. What is the best way to export such an image that  will look good in dreamworks?

You Probable wouldn't want to do this but you can alwas use png files instead but they don't work in Netscape

In general browsers will only support indexed transparency. This means that you must select one or multiple colours that will be recognised as 100% transparent. Alpha transparency should support varying degrees of transparency but it doesn't show up on browsers.

What could be going wrong with your image is that you haven't set the correct matte colour (in the optimise pallete). If your image is appearing on a solid background choose this colour as your mat. If it is on a patterned bg, try to select the dominant colour or a colour in the middle of your range. Experiment with it.

Good luck
