Ghost error - 'Question (1854)' 1

I'm using an Image file to another partition as a simple
(and redundant) back up but receive the above error. Says
"A source volume could not be locked as it is in use by another process. Do you wish to attempt to force a dismount on the volume? All open handles to this volume would then be invalid."
Using XP Pro and Ghost 8.0. Haven't found anything even close
here or elsewhere. Thanks.

Ghost, as I understand it, is now owned by Symantec--used to be Power Quest. I have Power Quest Drive Image V7.

It (Power Quest) will NOT create an image to the same logical partition, since it is being used by the program. You must select another logical, or perhaps physical drive to create the partition--backup. I now use a USB external drive for my backups, and I make DVD images once a week. When the USB is disconnected, no harm can come to it.

Also, use caution. I believe v9 of Ghost IS the program I have. You MUST create a subdirectory for every backup. If you set auto backups, M-Sun, then only Sun would work. This is because it creates a small approx. 1kb. file that has critical info related to the backup. If you try to restore M, you will get an error--not sure if it is what you are talking about.

In my experience, Ghost will not image the system drive while that system is loaded. You must start your system from a boot disk created with the Ghost Boot Wizard. Load
Ghost.exe and the rest is pretty intuitive. You can also automate this process with a batch file using Ghost's command line interface.
