Hi,
just got a new series of brand-new HP Compaq Desktops, with more to follow.
On one machine, Ghost 7.5 wont start from floppy. The autoexec.bat runs normally, and ghost.exe is started in its last entry. Seems as if it were read but instead of getting the familiar ghost screen, the machine hangs forever.
Tried different floppies with no success.
On other machines from the same series I had no problem whatsoever, i.e. everything ran normally.
Any clue?
Thks ín advance

Hofburg,

Brand new computers, you say? Well then anything could be wrong since nothing is proven. The first thing I'm thinking is memory. See if it boots up with a floppy without Ghost on it. Then run a memory testing program ( for example) and see if it comes up with anything or hangs just the same.
Try switching memory with another (working) computer of the same type. You can also try switching the CPU, but that's a long shot.

hofburg,

I seem to remember we had the same problem with Ghost 7.5 Enterprise when the Compaq Evo D530S' were first released. It turned out to be incompatibility with the SATA settings in the BIOS.

You didn't mention which hp/Compaq model but try comparing the BIOS settings for the SATA controller settings on the non-working PC with those on a working one.

Hope this helps...

Thanks Palagast,
left memtest running overnight with no peculiarities. Btw, I was able to image the disk in a sister-PC and start Windows in the problematic one. It was just Ghost that didnt want to start - thats why Rick's reply seemed to point in the right direction.

Thanks Rick,
yes it is a HPCompaq d530 CMT (PE240ES). First I re-set the standard BIOS values, which didn't help; then I changed some interrupt settings to comply with those on a sister machine and - bingo! - now it spooks. A star is already granted.
