GFS rotation scheme and Disk staging problem

Hello,

I have 12 servers for backup. I made 12 different jobs, one job for one server. I have MSL6030 library with two drives (Ultrium LTO2 200/400Gb). My idea is to backup all servers with following policy: full backup on Saturday and differential backup from Monday to Friday. In that case I need 2 tapes every day for differential backup (there is alltogether cca. 300 Gb maximum) because of two drives and 4 tapes for Full backup (cca. 1000Gb). I’m using GFS rotation scheme. I would like that first two jobs should overwrite tapes (two different tapes on two different tape drive), all other jobs should append to those two tapes (ie on differential backup). I’m also using Disk staging options for 10 servers.

The result is now quite different to my wish. First and second jobs do overwrite as is my wish and tapes got the correct name (ie. D-BACKUP-FRI-01.12.06). All other jobs want to write to new tape. If blank tape (or tape in scratch pool) is available, the data migration is occured. If there is no available tape in scratch set neither blank tape, the data migration job filed. In Global Options -> Backup media I have selected „Append to Media“, but it is look like it is useless. Under Schedule I have selected „Enable GFS“, but I haven’t select „Append Media“. If I select also „Append Media“ under „Enable GFS“, then all jobs (except first and second) would write to new media with name A-BACKUP-FRI-01.12.06 and all jobs are written to that media and not to the tape which were created with first and second job. If that media is created on Monday, also jobs from all other days will write to the same tape and not to the different tapes for the differnet days.

I must also say that two jobs, which don’t use Disk staging, do backup to the media which is created with first or second job without any problems (exectlay as I expected). So the problem is only, when Disk Staging option is used.

Is there is any way (solution) to do the backup as I wish (written in first paragraph) without any „hand made“ intervention?

Regards,
Lovro
