My problem currently is that there is no ios on the 2950 switch i am using. I have the .bin file for the ios that i want to use ready to load on the TFTP server. when the switch comes up it comes up with only a "switch:" I have used the express install, but would like to get the ios installed via the tftp for general knowledge. I need to know the process to get it from "switch:" to an operational install.

As a side note i have a cisco.com membership but my lowly membership wont allow me to download software. I would like to get the latest ios for the 3550 and the 2950 switch, could i get some guidance on where a good download site would be? THanks in advance.

switch>enable
switch#interface vlan1
ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
make sure port you are going to use to connect to switch with in not shutdown. Should now be able to use the copy tftp command.

Also with the 2950 series switches there is an IOS file that ends with .tar. This is a bundle that includes the IOS plus cluster management software for the switch which you could then use a GUI interface with the switch or the Cisco Network Assistant software to manage it.

Thank you joamon that worked great, thank you for the assist.
