Getting emails at home

hi everyone - someone at work wants to be able to receive email at home as if they were at work. I know you can do this on imap easily with the proper open ports and i have heard that this can be done with exchange as well. Does anyone know what i need to do in order to enable this to work?

basically i need the person to be able to retrieve their mails at home and whatever they do sync's with the server at work and when they are at work their mail is already synched with what they did at home. Thank you for any help and suggestions.

easy as that? no funky settings to put on exchange server or outlook client or anything?
