can anyone tell me why it is that when I hit the IE or OE icons I dont get the option to connect, I thought I'd sorted this problem out by going into internet options, on connections and marking the 'Always dial my default connection' this works great until the next time you log on. It then auto defaults back to 'Never dial a connection'. Has anybody got any suggestions?????

Somethings to look at and try.

Connection Settings Change After You Apply an Internet Explorer Maintenance GPO

Have you run the System File checking program by typing Sfc /Scannow in the Run Box?
Requires your XP CD.

And while your CD is in the drive you can try this.
The ability to Repair Internet Explorer does not exist in the version that ships with Windows XP. This feature only becomes available after you upgrade to a newer version. This is normal and has been this way since Windows 98 and IE4. However, you can reinstall IE in Windows XP by clicking Start, Run and entering the following command:

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 c:\windows\inf\ie.inf

If that doesn't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
