We have removed a server name vista from the domain and rejoined it as tmvista using the same IP address. It is already over 20 days, we can ping both hostnames and they respond with the same IP. I have checked DNS and WINS server and they don't have the vista listed. Why?

Do you have an entry for the old servername in a host file somewhere? Can you ping the old name from ANY box?

Hope This Helps,

Good Luck!

Check DNS or WINS for multiple IP addresses. It is possible that two different computer names can have the same IP in DNS.

Your DHCP server is probably registering your box in DNS and you don't have scavenging enabled.

I found it. We have two WINS server. I only deleted it from the one of WINS servers. I found it still listed on the second WINS. After deleteing from the second WINS, ping doesn't reply any more.

Thank you.
