Hi,

I wondering if anyone can help me out with this problem I have. One of my DC went down cuz of an hard drive failure and the clients can still login in using the other DC. The problem is that I have an error when prompting new computers and user to the AD. I get this message

Windows cannot validate the uniqueness of this proposed user name with a global catalog server because: The server is not operational.
Windows will create this account, but the user can log on only after the user name is verified to be unique. For further assistance, contact your system administrator.

Does anyone know how I can solved this?

Thks in ADV

contact your system administrator ;)

or...

go to active directory sites and services, click on ntds info, and make the server that is there a global catalog as well. i think that'll work, although i've never added another gc while the other one is down.

Also make sure that under AD users and groups, your right click the domain name, choose Operations master, and make sure that the only surviving server is listed under all three tabs, as the operations master. You may also need to seize the Schema Master, which you can find directions for under help. These are all important if you plan on bring another DC up, as these need to availabe for proper AD operation. After the new DC is up, you can distribute these responsibilities.
