Hi

I have asked around for this and never got a full solution.

I have a php script that saves data to a text file. Works great for all languages except German.

Umlatt's and whatnot just are not saved. I have tried utf_8 and urlencode but nothing works.

Any ideas?

Brian

urlencode - do u pass the values via a query string?

that mwy be the problem...

Known is handfull, Unknown is worldfull

What are exactly the words which aren't saved. Or more specifically, what are the extended characters which cause problems?

Some ideas:

German Umlaut (ä,ö,ü) and ß are part of the 8-bit ASCII set.
You say that they disappear when saving as a text file.

Most browsers URLencode GET data automatically and the GET array is URLdecoded.

That makes me think that the trouble lies within saving it as a txt file. What is the OS/filesystem?

P.S.
Man muß nur die richtigen Fragen stellen um die besten Antworten zu bekommen.

Brian56,

I replicated a simple script and wrote Umlaut to a txt file in WinXP and there was no trouble writin or reading the characters.

Where does the text come from?
Have you inspected the txt file - if so can you show the content so we can have an idea what happens to the chars?
