Can someone answer these questions?

1. How do I mount a cdrom (both manually as well as automatically in autoexec.ncf)

2. Where are the mounted cdroms located?

3. What do I write in autoexec.ncf to automatically load rconag6.nlm with encryped password. This way all I have to do is press the power to the server and once the server is fully booted, use rconsolej without having to manually load rconag6.nlm and input password while being physically at the server?

That is it for now.

:)

3- First of all, RCONJ sucks. I can't use words to stress how bad I hate it. It's a security hazard and a drag to use. Use Remote Manager or AFREECON ( or both. They both have their place. If you insist on using RCONAG6, I believe you just have to use a -L switch and the encrypted password, put that in autoexec or a separate batch file.

2- they just mount like any other volume \\SERVER\CDVOLUME

1- on NW6, you have to load CDROM.NLM. Everything else is automatic. On NW6.5, you don't have to do anything. Make sure your controller drivers are loaded, generally IDEATA.HAM. If you want the CDROM to load on bootup, just put CDROM in the autoexec.ncf.

unload rconag6

type rconag6 encrypt
type desired password when prompted
type rtn at port questions
say yes yo saving to ncf
it creates ldrconag.ncf
load this in autoexec.ncf

if you are using 6.5 though then for remote and if you dont want to pay money then use or if it's an hp then use the rilo

terry

what does the rtn do for the ports?

when i enter ldronag.ncf...it still asks me to enter password before i can finish booting the server..is there a way around this so that the server will automatically know my password while booting?

marv u talk to me like i know what im doing lol :P

when u said cdrom mounts like any other volume..

how do i know what vol it takes?
is it take the next available vol number?...
having vol1...does it mount to next to vol2

Man you're killing me here :))

Vol1, Vol2, etc are the infamous NetWare volumes everybody uses but nobody knows why. It goes back a long way but there is nothing anywhere that says you have to follow that convention. I think that's what Novell taught in all of their classes from the start and everybody took it to the real world. I like to name the volumes more meaningful things like Users or Email or Data.

For cdroms, the name of the volume is whatever the label is on the disk itself. In other words, put it in your PC, what does it say the label is? That is the same as what the volume name will be. After you have put it in the server, you can also do a "VOLUMES" and it should list it. You can usually tell it's a CDROM volume because the attributes will show "RO" for Read Only.

the rtn at the ports sets the standard insecure port to 2034 and the secure at 2036

did you get prompted to create ldrconag.ncf

mind and remove the default crap thats in the autoexec for rconag6 password here or whatever it says

it really is as simple as this and you dont need to reboot to check

at server type m rconag6
if it's loaded type unload rconag6
type rconag6 encrypt
it will ask you to type in a password
then 2 questions on ports - hit rtn - if you change these then when you rconj you need to change as well
it will ask you if you want to create ldrconag.ncf
say yes
type ldrconag - watch it load
rconj into server

or use portal login using nds credentials
go to screens

Thanks Marv, for helping me understand mounting cdroms and showing me the "volume" command.

Also thanks to Terri for assisting me in getting the rconag6 working.
Finally got it to work by unloading rconag6..like u said..followed by:
1. rconag6 encrypt <password> (all on one line)
2. then put the line "ldrconag.ncf" in autoexec.ncf
