General Network Error Win32::ODBC

I have stated getting reports quite frequently of the DB / website crashing with the following error....

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]General network error. Check your network documentation.

How do I start to investigate what the problem might be?

'general error' isn't very helpfull!

I think I need to take this to the MS SQL forum, it's not perl erroring from what I can tell.
