Hello everyone,

I am thinking about updating my computer by the end of the summer. I currently have only a PIII-933 running off an ASUS CUV4X-E m/b. I want to take out the old M/B and Processor and install a much better ASUS A7N8X and stick in a AMD Athlon XP 2600, or something along those lines. In addition I will add some PC3200 memory, most likely 512 MB.

Now, I am currently running Windows XP Home Edition and my question is, if I pull out the old M/B, memory, and processor is Win XP going to think that it has been installed on a new computer and void out my regisration/activation big brother code? I really don't want to have to shell out another $150 for another license.

Is there a site or link that has this information? I have not been successful in finding this information.

Thanks!

Howdy:

Changing what you are will probably result in requiring a new activation code. It doesn't cost anything, just a phone call to Microsoft. You will get the prompt the first time you fire it up and attempt to activate it.

Hi Murry,

Outstanding! Thanks for the quick reply. That sounds great. I remember when I was having problems with one of my hard drives I ran out of web activation tries and did the phone call. It was pretty easy, all automated.

Take care!
