I just formated my computer and am having a problem with the time. I Had it set at the right time but after I leave it awhile it jumps to 2017 and the hours go way off. Could it be the CMOS battery???

Its running win 2k, its a p2 333, 128mg ram, 20 gig maxtor, soundblaster awe64 and so on.

You might want to check the cmos battery, it may be about ready to go. Troy Williams B.Eng.

Ok, I've changed the cmos battery with the same size and everything but now when I start the computer it comes up saying I need a BIOS password. I did'nt set one before but now it needs it. Wierd eh? I have no Idea what the password is. Its a dell Dimension p2 333. Could dell have Prioritized batteries or something freaky???? What can I do????

Take the battery out for several hours and leave power off. CMOS started to lose it's mind while you were changing the battery, but it didn't lose all it's mind.

Bah, I got passed that password thing now, it just took changing a jumper and deleting the passwords and changing the jumper back and everything was cool. Now the only problem I have is that the battery I suppose was'nt the problem. Now The computer still Jumps back to the same time (2017 and off a couple of hours). What else could be causing the problem??? Could some software do it?
