I have a GA-7VAXP Ultra Mobo

I do not want to use the Raid Mirror or Stripe facilities, I just want to install 4 Extra IDE devices.

I have followed the install manual and the procedure on page 90 can not be followed as the menus shown in the book are not on screen.

When I phoned Gigabyte tech support I was told to go to the web site and all would be clear......I am no better off, I have downloaded everything, but am unsure what to install and in which order........The last time I installed the Mobo drivers my PC kept shutting down for no `apparent` reason ` I have now reformatted and have installed XP WITHOUT any Mobo drivers as yet.......It has NOT CRASHED ONCE !!!!!! So I guess my problem was due to driver install and or sequence....

I really do need some help here....if the manual followed the software and had reference to a NON RAID setup, all would be fine
Thanks

Update I have installed the Mobo drivers as per the web site, but IDE 3 & 4, which is the RAID (ATA) IDE is unrecognized..I am putting a link to a screen grab of my device driver..........So far the good news is that my PC hasnt crashed all night...........I have only one ZIP drive fitted to IDE 3

Thanks

I have g-7vaxp. In BIOS (Integrated Peripherals) change the Promise chip from RAID to ATA.

I would connect all the ATAPI devices (CD-ROM, DVD, ZIP,..) to IDE1 and 2. Hard drive goes to IDE3 and 4.

I have the Gigabyte GA7-VAXP, the raid controller is set as you say to ATA in the bios and picks up normal CDroms (no need to boot from IDE3 & 4)
I have my two Barracuda's individually on IDE 1 & 2 and my DVD, CDRW & CDrom on 3 & 4, it's been running fine for 6 months now
